Louisville KY Radon Testing

Everyone is saying you need to have a Radon test performed on your new house in Louisville.  What is a Radon test anyway?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and the Surgeon General’s Office have estimated that as many as 20,000 lung cancer deaths are caused each year by Radon gas exposure. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon-induced lung cancer costs the United States over $2 billion dollars per year in both direct and indirect health care costs. (Based on National Cancer Institute statistics of 14,400 annual radon lung cancer deaths – Oster, Colditz & Kelley, 1984)

What does all that mean?
Radon gas is a silent killer. It is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. You can’t taste it, smell it, or even know if it’s present without testing for it. It comes from the breakdown of Uranium in the soil. Here is a map of Kentucky from the EPA website showing the radon gas levels for the state.  Notice that Jefferson County is in the high region.  Louisville and the surrounding areas are known for having elevated levels.

Louisville KY Radon Test?

I recently wrote a blog post about Radon testing here in Louisville.  Check this out for more info on Radon Testing, and why everyone needs to have this done.

The good news is you can mitigate radon levels down to what is considered acceptable, and it’s pretty cheap to do. The average mitigation system cost around a $1000-$1500, sometimes more. The first step is to have your home tested for high levels of Radon Gas. Our testing process is done with a professional electronic continuous monitoring system. The machine is placed in the home for 48 hours. It takes air samples every hour and gives you a breakdown of those samples in the report. If you would like to have your home tested for radon gas, please call or e-mail us to schedule an appointment.
